A special chapter in the history of Heidelberg University is the old student prison, also known as the “Studentenkarzer”. This curious relic was used to punish students for “trivial offences” by imprisoning them there for a short time. The cells are still preserved today, so you can take a look inside on our tour. The old dungeon is therefore a historical remnant and a living testimony to the unconventional history of Heidelberg’s student body.
